Make It Assistant Coordinator Creative Discovery Museum is one of the top children's museums in the country and is a vital educational resource across our region. Located in the heart of downtown Chattanooga, we strive to make our community the best place for a child to grow up and hope to inspire all children to explore, innovate, create, and play! The Make It Assistant Coordinator is responsible for instructing and assisting guests with age appropriate activities within the maker space gallery, called Make It, that allow children to explore the skills and tool usage necessary to make a variety of objects. Activities may include woodworking, electronics, sewing, and use of technology to create mixed media outputs. Ensuring the safe use of the space and the tools is of the utmost importance in this space. The Make It Assistant Coordinator works with Museum Education staff and volunteers to relate well to guests offering excellent customer service and ensuring safety and consistency and the appropriate use of tools and resources within the Make It gallery. Key Responsibilities Engages guests in activities and encourages guests to innovate, collaborate and problem solve within the scope of the activities. Keeps the guests and the gallery safe at all times by monitoring occupancy levels, appropriate use of materials and tools, use of required safety equipment and protocols, and maintenance of unobstructed walkways within the space. Organizes materials, tools and supplies in the storage areas and at the worktables. Keeps storage areas clean and organized for safe movement in spaces. Maintains inventory levels of all supplies and notifies appropriate personnel to acquire additional supplies as needed. Ensures that the Workshop and gallery are set-up and stocked with appropriate tools and supplies, picked-up throughout the day, and cleaned up at the end of the day. Develops new making activities for guests and programming as needed. Ensures that daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning and maintenance protocols are completed. Ensures tools and equipment are maintained and in good working order. Works closely with Museum Education staff to share the workload in the gallery. Key Requirements Excellent communication skills Ability to teach and explain concepts necessary to learn new skills or use tools and equipment Demonstrated ability to work with a wide variety of tools, materials, equipment, and techniques to make original things Well organized and detail oriented Team player, flexible, innovative, playful, interested in children and children's museums High energy level Degree (may be in progress) in science/engineering/media, art education or related field preferred. 3 years of experience working with children in grades K-8. full time, hourly The Creative Discovery Museum is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
